Project Overview
Pacific Giant is a refrigerated warehouse facility dedicated to seafood product storage and distribution. The refrigeration system being analyzed consist of five condensing units and eleven evaporator units. These units serve four different areas throughout the facility; Freezer, Small Cooler, Large Cooler, Processing B. Freezer is served by two 60 HP compressors and eight evaporators maintaining the temperature below 15°F. Small Cooler is served by one 12 HP compressor and one evaporator unit maintaining the room temperature at approximately 36°F. Large Cooler is served by one 12 HP compressor and one evaporator unit maintaining the room temperature at approximately 36°F. Processing Area is served by one 5 HP compressor and one evaporator unit maintaining the room temperature at approximately 50°F.
Carlisle Energy Solutions (CES) upgraded a total of 35 evaporator fan motors in Freezer, Small Cooler, Large Cooler and Processing B areas. The Carlisle ECM refrigeration control system will help save energy and money by switching the evaporator motors’ operating speed between two speeds depending on compressor operation: high speed when the compressor is on, and low speed when the compressor is off. CES provided the customer with a project cost of $87,478, including installation. CES also provided post installation estimates which states that the project will achieve a total energy savings of 289,958 kWh/year and a total cost savings of $45,813 per year. Base on an incentive amount of $0.075 per annual kWh savings, a total of $21,747 in incentives were calculated by CES with a simple payback period of 1.4 years.
